I've spent 18 years in a wheelchair after breaking my back in a motor-cross accident in 1987.
I have had Honda Pilots, Quads, go-carts, and fast cars and yet nothing could give me that buzz of a motorcycle.
So after reading a kit car magazine, I rang Mark Grinnall and arranged an appointment to view the Scorpion 3. Being from a mechanical background, I was very impressed with the engineering and finish of all the components and could only compare it to something from Formula racing car.
“Lift yourself in” Mark suggested “and I’ll take you for a spin.”
Well, all I can say is I have never been around such country lanes at 70 mph sideways before. More than impressed with the Scorpion bark and performance, he really could drive that thing. Without hesitation my order was placed, hand controls wouldn’t be a problem.
Some 12 weeks later the day had arrived to collect the finished product. Not having driven anything like it before I decided to trailer it back to Swindon. A wise decision I think.
Mark did however say to take it steady and not to forget there was only one rear wheel. That was good advice. Shame I didn’t listen.
Two days later, home from work early, the sun was out, this is it. My 15 year old son and I were off.
Taking it steady, not too much throttle, getting used to the quickshift gears; yes I’m getting used to this.
Three hours later it really is motorcycle performance sounds like one and goes like one – can’t fault it. Now I’m really getting that buzz I haven’t had for years, getting more confident, these lanes – no problem!
30 minutes later big hand full, rear steps out, we’re through the hedge, awesome! So my first drive lasted some 3 hours and 30 minutes, not a record so Mark Grinnall assures me. However, thanks to Mark and the boys, it was only off the road for just over a week. Was it and expensive first outing? Maybe! But it was exciting.
Conclusion: I have never before, since being a paraplegic, been on or in anything to give me the buzz and acceleration of a fast bike, until now. Priceless!
Thank you Mark and the team.
